Hidden Passage
The building which housed
Hidden Passage Bookstore in
Placerville, California dates back
to the mid 1800s when Placerville,
known then as Dry Diggins began
to sprout into a city.
The first building burned in the
1850s but was rebuilt. The site has
housed a tannery, saloon and
other businesses including three
bookstores in recent years.
Local legend has it that the
building is haunted. Bookstore
owners have reported books
falling off shelves, cool breezes,
the sounds of glass tinkling, and
cords being unplugged.  We
decided to look into the
happenings and in Sept. 2007, we
got our chance.

We arrived at 8 p.m. and set up our equipment. The owner promptly gave us the keys
and left us on our own for the next three hours.  After turning off lights, we began the
scientific portion of the investigation utilizing the trifield, temperature and cell sensor.
There were no abnormal readings.
As the night progressed, Autumn sensed a male presence but when we attempted to
contact him with dousing rods, we were unsuccessful. We performed three evp
sessions. Two were done in the main book area and the last was done in the rear of
the building which reportedly was once a saloon.
Earlier in the evening, Charlotte had placed a shot glass on some tape on a table in
the room and also placed a bottle of gin in the hope that the spirit might move the
objects.
During the evp session, Charlotte heard what sounded like an object moving or being
pushed across a surface. Ruth thought it was the sound of someone’s
stomach growling. After analyzing the digital recording later, the evp which is on this
page was the result. No one in the room heard the noise which is on the evp.
After the investigation was completed, Ruth also commented that she heard
movement in the upstairs or attic of the building. This could have been caused by
mice or rats. Charlotte asked the owner if anyone lived upstairs and he said no one did.
It must be noted, that when arriving earlier in the night, Autumn came up with the
name William.
Another note: When Charlotte conducted the preliminary investigation, she reported
that a cold spot seemed to follow her throughout the building and at one point was
right in her lap during an EVP session.
After breaking down the equipment and returning back to headquarters the team
analyzed the data collected. Nothing showed up in still photos or video, the only odd
occurrence happened on the evp.

Conclusion: Although cold spots were experienced and the sensitive did claim to
come in contact with the spirit of a male, other then the evp, no other hard evidence
was obtained. Perhaps being able to spend more time in the building  would be
beneficial. At this point, the investigation was inconclusive. Feel free to listen to the
evp and let us know what you think.
This evp was obtained in the back area of the
building, present were Ruth, Charlotte, Autumn
and Krysten. The click you will hear is from
Krysten's camera. We were all seated around a
tabl wth a pad on teh top. Al hands were on top of
the table.
